| Launched in March 1998, the
"Quarterly Economic Review" of the Economic
and Social Research Foundation provides coverage of
the country's economic performance and in depth examination
of important development challenges.
The first section of every review is devoted to providing
an analysis of the major indicators and their trends,
as well as providing an interpretation of these developments
for various actors in the economy (i.e., the government,
the business community and the general public). Covered
areas include, but are not limited to:
|
 |
Monetary growth, its sources and achievements
against set targets. |
 |
Fiscal performance including revenue and expenditure. |
 |
Inflation, overall and of food and non-food
items |
 |
Key financial indicators, including levels and
structures of interest rates, variations of returns
to financial assets and lending rates across major
banks to enable informed choices. |
 |
Information on new investments, analysis of
developments influencing the investors' road map. |
 |
External Trade composition and balances |
|
Another regular section of
the Review is the Regional Focus. This provides, for
one particular region of the country, a survey of social
and economic indicators, in addition to a qualitative
survey of the trends and major current issues in the
region gathered from field visits.
In order to provide a more detailed understanding of
issues of vital importance to the economy, the QER also
features special section, often written by officials
of the government of Tanzania or important institutions
themselves, or else based on interviews of the same.
Recently covered topics have included: economic and
financial reforms, money laundering, and the energy
supply situation.
Finally, the QER also endeavors to keep its readership
abreast of important ESRF research findings, and to
this end has regular research spotlight section which
summarizes recent high-impact research.
